Artist's Statement

My name is Kha Huynh, and I am a student at a University in California. Playing video games has been part of my life since I was five years old. Video games have become part of my routine to reduce stress, pass time, and hang out with friends. From experience, lines alone are somewhat difficult to connect, and navigating from one point to another is rather dull and not as enjoyable, but forming an object from a cube is something that I am always interested in, to shape or mold it, giving birth to a new form. My art form or field of study is realistic and stylized, imaginative, computer 3D, and experiential. Through charcoal drawing and 3D elements, I aim to experiment to create a final result that looks and feels realistic—using charcoal on paper as a medium allows me to blend and control the value more efficiently, an essential to make the drawing realistic. In my free time, I practiced my 3D modeling skills with classes and YouTube to help me experience and envision my future self and decide to apply to GAAIM and become a 3D artist. A future that I will see myself continuing to enjoy. Sometimes, when creating something, the mistakes I make give birth to a new idea other than the planned idea I had in mind.

The world develops rapidly every year, with new tools improving our lives. I find that computers are part of our daily lives, and I want to incorporate myself into them. 3D software like Maya, Adobe Substance Painter, and Unreal Engine makes our lives much easier by providing us with a convenient workspace. By using the tools provided, I envision myself graduating with a BFA in Game Art, Animation, and Immersive Media degree and joining one of the top game-making industries like Blizzard, Nintendo, and Ubisoft, which have inspired me through their games like StarCraft II, Diablo IV, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. I enjoy making models and games because they bring people together, escaping one’s reality. A game that can create new friends who can positively impact someone’s life, bringing family together after a long day being isolated from one another. Original and impressing people with my work and creativity fuels my pride and joyfulness. I developed these skills for the past few years by taking high school and college classes, practicing at home with a digital art tablet, and researching methods to inspire myself.

Over time, my work of art has gradually improved through practicing, researching, and with the help of others like my friends and professors. As of now, I’ve seen an opportunity to accomplish my dream of being a good and successful artist. I want to help create a game where we can escape reality. Since everything has a beginning, my first step is to achieve and become a Game Art, Animation, and Immersive Media artist.
